Our Southern Pacific MK-4, 5, & 6 Mikado Project will arrive in April 2002!!! I have wanted to do this project for the last five years and reluctantly gave it up to another importer who never produced it! So here it is, done by the best—Boo-Rim Precision—with all the great features you expect from “The Division Point.” Nine different road numbers in three classes will give our SouthernPacific fans lots to choose from!!
I have included photos in this newsletter for your perusal from the excellent photo album series by Duane Karam and Jeff Ainsworth on the Southern Pacific Mikes (Volume 5). There are some beautiful photos in this series by many of the great rail photographers of our time. It is an excellent photo reference for our project. We have tried to give both you (dealer and customer) a good cross section of all the types and modifications present in this class of engines. Hope you like our choices!!
THE PILOT MODEL
The "MK" series Mikes were the workhorse “do everything” engines on the “ESPEE” systems— truly the CR (general purpose) engines of the steam era. Because of ths flexibility of assignment, they lasted until the very end of steam in places like Bayshore, San Bernardino, and Rosewood. We have gone all out for these favorites of ours, giving you, the customer, a wide variety to choose from. Classes MK-4, 5 & 6 and the TN&O version are represented, with both square and later rebuilt "sport cabs". Three different Feed Water Heater systems and four different types of tenders are modeled, including the often modeled but never quite accurate "whaleback" tender. (We have the original SR plans for this tender.) As usual, along with state of the art running and accuracy, the models will come equipped with KAYDEETM "proto-profileTMcouplers" and specially hand painted Preiser crew. Wireless draw bars and back-up lights are standard. Very limited quantities insure a quick sellout. Order through your Division Point dealer on the enclosed order form.
