The DIVISION POINT will head east of the Mississippi for out latest planned project. Our first for this venerable road! Early next year we will bring you the CENTRAL's "Mohawk" (Mountain) 4-8-2's. L-1, L-2, L-3 and L-4 will be modelled in sub-classes "a" through "d".

NYC #2512 Built (as always) by our prestigious steam builder, BOO-RIM PRECISION of Korea, the L-1's have never been produced before. They promise to bring a new level of prototype fidelity and running quality to the roster of New York Central fans all over the country. Although the L-2's, 3's and 4's have been done before, we will raise the bar significantly for these great engines both in accuracy and running quality. As I have said, we plan all sub-classes of the "Mohawks", and will include as the DIVISION POINT "SPECIAL COLLECTORS EDITION" which will be the L-1d engine #2677, the only engine of this series with an exposed Coffin feedwater heater.

Named after the first NYC division the were tested on, the "MOHAWKs" were a large (600 strong!) and much heralded class on the CENTRAL. These engines were introduced in 1916 and lasted till the end of steam in 1956. Many of our photos and much of our data come from the excellent book, New York Central's Later Power by Alvin Staufer and Edward L. May This was a great reference work for our project.

Proposed engine numbers and classes for the L-1s and L-2s are listed below, with appropriate DIVISION POINT numbers. Class L-3s and L-4s are in the process of being decided. Delivery is scheduled for the spring of 2003, and pricing will be announced shortly.
