In the years following the end of World War II, the Great Northern Railway improved its mail and baggage service by either converting former heavyweight tourist cars to baggage or mail storage service, transferring former name train mail and baggage cars to more pedestrian service, or re-configuring and further modifying cars that had been in similar service. Continuing in Pullman green paint, many of these cars came to be painted in the Great Northern's Empire Builder colors. A number of representatives of each type are to be imported by Challenger.
