The years following World War II witnessed the full blossoming of the elegant first class all lightweight streamlined passenger trains. Through those first post-war years, the great railroads were in fierce competition as much for corporate recognition as they were for dollars derived from passenger revenue. The finest in design talents were brought to bear so that each of the major railroads, whether as a sole venture or in tandem with another, could derive special recognition from their major high-speed trains.

So it came to pass that the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific and the Southern Pacific combined their talents and efforts to produce the stunning red and silver Golden State traversing the route from Chicago to Los Angeles. Challenger's Samhongsa-built train will offer the modeler all of the glory and elegance of the prototype while including full interiors and the special finishes required to both plate and paint the fluted side cars while applying both red and silver paint to the smooth side cars.

A glance at our forthcoming E units indicates that proper power will be available. Thoughtful modeling and special details will include such finely detailed features as separately applied plated name boards and small number boards on the Rock Island owned cars with comparable levels of detail appearing on each and every car in the consist.
